1. What Cavicetin is and what it is used for
Cavicetin is a medicine containing the active substance vinpocetine.

Cavicetin is used to treat certain diseases associated with impaired blood circulation in the brain.

It is also used to reduce mental and neurological symptoms in cerebrovascular disorders, to treat certain eye and ear diseases caused by vascular disorders or to reduce their symptoms.

2. What you need to know before you take Cavicetin
Do not take Cavicetin:
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to vinpocetine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
During pregnancy and breast-feeding;
If you are a woman of childbearing age and are not using a reliable method of contraception;
In childhood.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Cavicetin:

If you have a heart condition called long QT syndrome (an abnormality of the normal electrocardiogram), or if you are taking medicines that cause this condition. Your doctor may regularly monitor your condition by performing repeated electrocardiograms.

Children and adolescents
The use of Cavicetin is contraindicated in children due to a lack of relevant data.

Other medicines and Cavicetin
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following medicines:

Medicines containing the active substance alpha-methyldopa (to lower blood pressure).

Medicines acting on the central nervous system.

Anticoagulants (medicines that prevent blood clots).
Antiarrhythmics (used to treat heart rhythm disorders).
Vinpocetine with food, drink and alcohol
The tablets should be taken after a meal.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

If you are a woman of childbearing potential, you must use a reliable method of contraception during treatment with Vinpocetine. Otherwise, taking Vinpocetine is contraindicated.

The use of Vinpocetine is contraindicated during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines
There is no data available on any effect of Vinpocetine on the ability to drive and use machines.

Vinpocetine contains lactose
If your doctor has told you that you are sensitive to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

3. How to take Cavicetin
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended dose is 3 times 1 Cavicetin tablet.

The tablets should be taken after meals.

No dose adjustment is necessary if you have kidney or liver disease.

If you take more Cavicetin than you should
Call your doctor immediately or go to the emergency department of your nearest hospital.

If you forget to take Cavicetin
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose, as you cannot make up for it, but an overdose may occur. Take the next dose at the usual time.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following side effects have been reported during treatment with vinpocetine:

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
dizziness;
stomach discomfort;
dry mouth;
nausea;
low blood pressure;
changes in blood pressure (mainly lower);
high cholesterol;
headache.
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
reduction in the number of white blood cells;
reduction in the number of platelets;
insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle, heart attack;
pressure-like pain around the heart;
slow heart rate;
fast heart rate;
palpitations;
irregular heart rate;
changes in hearing;
ringing in the ears;
swelling of the optic nerve;
stomach pain;
constipation;
diarrhoea;
indigestion;
vomiting;
fatigue;
malaise;
feeling warm;
increased blood pressure;
increased triglyceride levels in the blood;
changes in the electrocardiogram (ECG);
decrease or increase in the number of certain white blood cells in the blood (eosinophils);
changes in liver enzyme levels;
loss of appetite, reluctance to
for food intake;
diabetes;
dizziness;
taste disturbance;
unilateral muscle weakness;
drowsiness;
memory impairment;
insomnia;
sleep disturbance;
anxiety;
skin redness;
increased sweating;
itching;
skin rash;
hives;
hypertension;
flushing;
varicose veins.
Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)
anemia;
coagulation (sticking together) of red blood cells;
redness of the conjunctiva (the thin transparent membrane that covers the white part of the visible eyeball);
difficulty swallowing;
inflammation of the oral mucosa;
chest discomfort;
irregular heartbeat;
low body temperature;
hypersensitivity (allergy);
decrease or increase in the number of white blood cells;
decrease in the number of red blood cells;
shortening of the time it takes for blood to clot;
weight gain;
tremor;
seizure;
euphoric mood;
depression;
inflammation of the skin;
fluctuations in blood pressure.

5. How to store Cavicetin
Store below 25°C.
Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the packaging after the abbreviation “EXP”: The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Medicines should not be thrown away via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need. These measures will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the pack and other information
What Cavicetin contains:
The active substance in this medicine is vinpocetine. Each tablet contains 10 mg of vinpocetine.
The other ingredients (excipients) are: pregelatinised (maize) starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, talc, magnesium stearate.
What Cavicetin looks like and contents of the pack
White to almost white, round, flat tablets, with a score line on one side. The tablet can be divided into two equal halves.

Package contents

10 tablets in a PVC/PVdC/AJ foil blister. Three or nine blisters are placed in a cardboard box, together with a patient information leaflet.
