What is Heppa-Merz and what is it used for?

Concentrate for solution for infusion, 10 ml ampoules

1 ampoule of 10 ml contains:

Active substance: L-ornithine-L-aspartate (L-ornithine-L-aspartate) 5 g
Hepa-Mertz contains L-ornithine-L-aspartate, which accelerates the release of ammonia from the body by stimulating the biochemical processes in the liver cells (urea synthesis in the urea cycle). In addition, L-ornithine-L-aspartate promotes the accelerated release of ammonia from tissues regardless of liver cells.

Hepa-Mertz is used for treatment in cases of suppression or loss of consciousness caused by hepatic insufficiency (Latent and Manifest Hepatic Encephalopathy)

2. When should not you use Hepa-Merz?

Hepa-Mertz should not be used in:

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to L-ornithine-L-aspartate or any of the other ingredients of the product.
Hepa-Mertz should not be used in severe renal failure (with elevated serum creatinine levels above 3 mg / 100 ml).
What precautions should you consider when using Hepa-Mertz?

Applying high doses of Hepa-Mertz requires monitoring the level of urea in the serum and urine. In case of severe liver failure to avoid gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea and vomiting, the rate of infusion should be determined individually.

Which other products affect the effect of Hepa-Mertz or can they be influenced?

So far there is no evidence of drug interactions with other products.

What should you keep in mind if you are pregnant or breast-feeding?

The safety of this product when used during pregnancy or lactation has not been established. Please tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or if you are planning to become pregnant.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines:

Because of the nature of the disease being treated, the ability to drive and use machines may be reduced during treatment with Hepa-Mertz.

3. How can you use Heppa-Merz?

An ampoule of 10 ml should be diluted in a solution for infusion. Unless otherwise prescribed, up to 4 ampoules per day are given.

In the initial phase of consciousness disorder (overcome) and mind blur (coma), up to 8 ampoules are administered for 24 hours, depending on the severity of the condition.

Hepa-Mertz concentrate for solution for infusion can be added to all types of traditional infusion solutions:

For intravenous administration, it is not recommended to put more than 6 ampoules in 500 ml of solution for infusion.

Maximum infusion rate: 5 g per hour (corresponding to the contents of one ampoule).

What should you do if you have taken more Hepa-Merz?

No signs of ornithine-aspartate overdose have been observed.

The frequency of adverse reactions observed is defined by the following scheme:

Very rare: <1 / 10,000, including single cases
Transient reactions from the digestive system are possible, such as nausea and vomiting rarely, but they do not require treatment to be stopped but only a reduction in the dose or infusion rate.
