What is Namaxir and what it is used for
Namaxir contains methotrexate as active substance.
Methotrexate is a substance with the following properties:
inhibits the growth of certain cells in the body that are rapidly multiplying;
reduces the activity of the immune system (the body's own protective mechanism);
has anti-inflammatory action.
Namaxir is indicated for the treatment of:
active rheumatoid arthritis in adult patients;
polyarthritic forms of severe, active juvenile idiopathic arthritis that are not affected by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs);
severe, resistant psoriasis that is unaffected by other forms of therapy such as phototherapy, PUVA (type of phototherapy) and retinoids and severe psoriatic arthritis in adult patients;
mild to moderate Crohn's disease in adult patients when adequate treatment with other drugs is not possible.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is chronic collagenosis, characterized by inflammation of the synovial membranes (joint membranes). These membranes form a fluid that acts as a lubricant for many joints. Inflammation causes thickening of the membrane and swelling of the joint.
Juvenile arthritis affects children and adolescents under 16 years of age. Polyarthritic forms are shown when affecting 5 or more joints during the first 6 months of the disease.
Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis with psoriatic lesions on the skin and nails, especially the joints of the fingers and toes.
Psoriasis is a common chronic skin disease characterized by red plaques covered with thick, dry, silvery, clinging flakes.
Namaxir modifies and slows the progression of the disease.
Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract and cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, or weight loss.

Before treatment
Before starting treatment, you will be given blood samples to check if you have enough blood cells to test your liver function, serum albumin (blood protein) and kidney function. Your doctor will also check if you are suffering from tuberculosis (an infectious disease in combination with small nodules in the affected tissue) and an x-ray of the chest.
During treatment
You will be given the following studies at least once a month during the first six months of the following:
Review of the mouth and throat for mucosal changes;
Blood tests;
Hepatic function check;
Verification of renal function;
Check the respiratory system and, if necessary, study the pulmonary function.
Methotrexate may affect your immune system and the vaccination results. It may also affect the outcome of immunological studies. Inactive, chronic infections (eg herpes zoster, tuberculosis, hepatitis B or C) can be activated. You should not be vaccinated with live vaccines during treatment with Namakir.
During treatment with methotrexate, repeated reactions of radiation-induced dermatitis and sunburn may occur. Psoriatic lesions may be exacerbated by UV irradiation and concomitant administration of methotrexate.
Larger lymph nodes (lymphoma) may occur and treatment should be stopped.
Diarrhea may be a toxic effect of NAMIXX and require discontinuation of treatment. If you suffer from diarrhea, please contact your doctor.
Cancer patients treated with methotrexate have been reported to be encephalopathy (brain disease) / leukoencephalopathy (especially white brain damage) and can not be excluded in the treatment of other methotrexate diseases.
Children
Namaxir is not recommended in children under the age of 3 due to lack of experience in this age group.
