WHAT pentoxifyllin AND WHAT IT IS USED
Pentoxifyllin reduces the density of the blood and improves the elasticity of erythrocytes circulating in the small vessels and tissue oxygen supply. Pentoxifylline Actavis is used in:
• Peripheral arterial and arteriovenous of atherosclerotic disorders, diabetes, inflammatory and functional origin; intermittent claudication or rest pain, diabetic angiopathy, obliterative endangiit; trophic disorders (post-thrombotic syndrome, leg ulcers, gangrene) angionevropatii;
• Eye circulatory disorders (acute and chronic circulatory disorder in the retina and choroid);
• Functional disorders of the inner ear (hearing impaired, sudden hearing loss) from circulatory origin;
• Conditions of reduced perfusion of the brain (ischemic conditions, impaired brain function of vascular origin with symptoms such as lack of concentration, dizziness, forgetfulness).
 
2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE TREATMENT pentoxifyllin
 
Pentoxifyllin does not apply to:
• Hypersensitivity to the active substance, excipients and methylxanthines;
• Brain haemorrhage in the retina;
• Acute myocardial infarction;
• Severe cardiac arrhythmias.
In this medicinal product, please note the following:
In patients with hypotension or severe coronary artery disease Pentoxifylline Actavis be administered with caution as it is possible transient drop in blood pressure and in some cases can lead to a reduction in the supply of the heart with oxygen.
It is necessary to monitor patients with impaired renal function. In patients with creatinine clearance below 30 ml / min require dose reduction to one or two tablets of 400 mg per day in order to avoid accumulation.
In patients with severely impaired liver function is also required dose reduction.

Taking other medicines

Co-administration of theophylline and Pentoxifylline Actavis may increase the concentration of theophylline in the plasma of some patients. When possible increase in adverse effects of theophylline.
Cimetidine significantly increased plasma concentrations of Pentoxifylline and increases the risk of pronounced side effects. Smoking reduces the effect of the product.
High doses of the product may rarely increase the hypoglycaemic effect of insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents.
 
3. HOW TO USE pentoxifyllin
The average dose was 400 mg three times daily. The course of treatment lasts for 8 weeks. If adverse effects, the dose may be reduced to one tablet of 400 mg in the morning and evening
The product was given with food and / or an antacid to reduce the gastric irritation.
The product is not intended for use in children.
In patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 30 ml / min) is necessary to reduce the dose by 30% to 50% depending on individual patient tolerance.

There are reports of overdose with 80 mg / kg weight. The symptoms are reddening of the face, convulsions, drowsiness, unusual excitement.
Treatment is symptomatic.
If you forget to take Pentoxifylline Actavis

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like any other medicine, pentoxifylline Actavis can cause side effects.
