What ECOZID SR is and what it is used for

ECOZID SR is a medicine that lowers blood glucose (an oral antidiabetic medicine belonging to the group of sulphonylureas).

ECOZID SR is used in adults for the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 2 diabetes mellitus) when diet, exercise and weight loss alone are not sufficient to maintain normal blood glucose levels.

2. What you need to know before you take ECOSID SR

Do not take ECOZID  SR:

if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to gliclazide, other sulphonylureas, sulphonamides or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
if you suffer from insulin dependent diabetes (type 1);
if you have ketone bodies and sugar in the urine (this may mean you have diabetic ketoacidosis), a diabetic precoma or coma;
if you suffer from severe liver or kidney disease;
if you are currently taking medicines to treat fungal infections (miconazole) (see "Other Medicines and ECOSID SR");
if you are breast-feeding.
If you think any of these conditions apply to you or have any doubts, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking ECOSID SR.

You should only take ECOSID SR if you eat regularly (including breakfast). It is important to take carbohydrates regularly because of the increased risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) if you eat late, get hungry, eat too little, or have low carb diets.

Regular monitoring of blood glucose (and possibly urine sugar) is required during ECOSID SR treatment. Your doctor may also take blood for your so-called blood test. glycated hemoglobin (HbAlc), if necessary.

You should follow the treatment prescribed by your doctor to ensure that your blood glucose values are within the recommended levels. This means taking the pills constantly, diet and physical activity.

During the first weeks of treatment, the risk of a decrease in blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) may be increased. Therefore, more frequent monitoring and monitoring by your doctor is needed.

Low blood glucose (hypoglycaemia) levels can be detected if:

eat irregularly or miss essential meals;
you are starving;
you are malnourished;
change your diet;
increase your physical activity and the amount of carbohydrate you intake does not match that increase;
consume alcohol, especially in combination with skipping basic meals; at the same time you are taking other medicines or natural medicinal products; you are taking too many doses of gliclazide;
suffer from specific hormone-dependent diseases (impaired thyroid function, pituitary gland or adrenal cortex);
your liver or kidney function is severely impaired.
If you have low blood sugar, you may experience the following symptoms: headache, hunger, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sleep disorder, agitation, aggression, decreased concentration, decreased alertness and delayed reactions, depression, confusion, visual or speech disorder, tremor, sensory disturbances, dizziness, feeling powerless.
The following symptoms may also occur: sweating, cool and moist skin, restlessness, rapid or irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, sudden severe chest pain, which may spread to adjacent areas (angina).

If your blood sugar continues to decrease, you may be in a state of intense confusion (delirium), develop convulsions, lose self-control, your breathing may become superficial, and your heart rate may slow down, you may become unconscious.

In most cases, the symptoms of low blood sugar pass very quickly if you take some form of sugar, for example. lumps of sugar, sweet juice, sweetened tea. For this reason, you should always carry some type of sugar with you. Remember that artificial sweeteners are not effective. Contact your doctor or the nearest hospital if taking sugar does not help or your symptoms recur.

Symptoms of low blood sugar may be absent, less pronounced, or you may not feel that your blood sugar has dropped in time. This can happen if you are of age and are taking certain medicines (eg those that act on the central nervous system and beta-blockers). This can also happen if you have diseases of the endocrine system (eg impaired thyroid function, pituitary gland or adrenal gland).

If you are in a state of stress (eg accidents, surgery, infections accompanied by fever, etc.), your doctor may temporarily change ECOSID SR with insulin.
ECOZID SR with food, drinks and alcohol
ECOZID SR can be taken with food and soft drinks. Drinking alcohol is not recommended as it may interfere with your diabetes control in an unpredictable way.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. ECOZID SR is not recommended for use during pregnancy. If you are planning to become pregnant or become pregnant, tell your doctor. You should not take ECOSID SR if you are breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines
Your ability to concentrate or respond may be impaired if your blood sugar is too low (hypoglycaemia) or too high (hyperglycaemia), or if visual disturbances occur as a result of these conditions. Keep in mind that you could endanger yourself or other people (eg when driving or operating machines). Ask your doctor if you can drive if you:

you have frequent episodes of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia);
the symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) in you are mild or lacking.
3. How to take ECOZID SR

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The dose is determined by your doctor, depending on your blood sugar levels and possibly your sugar in the urine. Changes in external factors (eg weight loss, lifestyle and nutrition changes, stress) or improvements in blood glucose control may require a change in the dose of gliclazide.

The recommended dose is 1 tablet daily.
Usually, the dose can range from 1 to a maximum of 4 tablets taken once a day. It depends on the response to treatment. If the necessary blood glucose control is not achieved, your doctor may increase the dose appropriately, usually once a month.

ECOSIDE prolonged-release tablets may replace other oral antidiabetic medicines, but at your doctor's discretion. When initiating combination treatment with ECOSIDE SR and other antidiabetic drugs (eg metformin, alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, thiazolidinediones, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonist or insulin), your doctor will determine the appropriate dose for each individual physician. for you.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you think ECOSID SR is acting too hard or too hard for you.

Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew or break them. Take your tablet (s) with a glass of water at breakfast and preferably at the same time each day. You should always eat after taking the tablet (s).

If you take more ECOSIDE SR than you should
If you take more tablets, contact your doctor or the nearest hospital emergency department immediately. The manifestations of overdose are those in the lowering of blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) described in point 2. They can be controlled by the immediate ingestion of sufficient sugar (cluster of grapes, lumps of sugar, juice containing sugar, sweetened tea) and then made a hearty breakfast or a basic meal. If the patient is unconscious, tell a doctor immediately or call an ambulance. The same should be done if someone, e.g. child accidentally swallows this medicine. Unconscious patients should not be given food or fluids.

As hypoglycaemia may persist for some time, it is very important that the patient is closely monitored until the danger disappears. Hospitalization may be required. Severe hypoglycaemia, accompanied by loss of consciousness and severe neurological impairment, requires immediate emergency care and hospitalization. A sufficiently informed person should always be able to call a doctor in case of emergency.

If you forget to take ECOSIDE SR
It is important that you take your medicine every day as regular treatment has a better effect.
However, if you forget to take one daily dose of ECOSID SR, take the next dose at the usual time the next day. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you stop taking ECOZID SR
If you interrupt or stop your treatment, you will feel that your blood sugar control is getting worse. Discontinuation of treatment may lead to an increase in blood glucose (hyperglycemia), which increases the risk of developing complications of diabetes. You must consult your doctor before stopping taking this medicine.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
